Warrior Luck is a force you set in motion. It’s stubborn and unyielding at first but great efforts now mean you can relax later. Let’s think about the nature of “luck.”

Chance is Good Fortune. Serendipity. What is the greatest piece of good luck you’ve ever had? Your parentage? Talents? Home town? Best friend? A piece of advice? A special teacher? Reflect in your Training Journal. Have you ever been offered a piece of good luck you couldn’t take advantage of, but wish you had? How lucky do you need to be? How familiar are you with the faces of gamblers seated hour by hour at the slot machines, wearing special gloves so their skin doesn’t fall off? Seriously, who would want to be them? Is it luck itself that we give thanks for, or our ability to recognize good fortune? Perhaps it’s really just our flexibility to take advantage of a piece of good luck when we’re offered it. These memories have one thing in common- i.e. “ability”, which is not luck, which is YOU. Give thanks for these abilities. Let’s learn to develop them.

Challenge – But when you want to “be lucky” what does that mean? In whose eyes? A different way of thinking about fortune is not all the wonderful things that didn’t happen, but the terrible things that COULD have happened – you’re lucky they didn’t. In other words, let’s try adopting a “glass half full” perspective and see how far that gets us.

Danger – The danger remains the same – giving control of our psyche over to some other entity that may not (almost certainly doesn’t) have our best interests at heart. Warrior Tarot is about YOU. Warrior Tarot put YOU in charge of YOUR life. We are not interested in becoming mercenary soldiers for someone else’s advantage. We may not even aware we’re ceding control. Consider employment, for example. You may tell yourself you’re just going to earn enough to Follow Your Dream. But suddenly you’re enmeshed in Lifestyle Expectations. You have to live just like the people around you and strangely –you find yourself BROKE and INDEBTED at the end of the day. Looks like you’re stuck here forever…like everyone else.

Take Control. This is where the discipline of the Warrior is so critical. We’re in charge of our passions, our desires and our psyches. This takes daily practice and rigorous accountability. Everyone envies our superpower. What is it exactly? Isn’t it just the Logic of the Stoics – practiced by Plato, Marcus Aurelius and other great thinkers – that put us in the driver’s seat? Take an honest look at the path your cohort is following. Do you really want to go there? How can you trust people who aren’t in charge of themselves? Talk it out with your allies and listen to their reasoning. Are you hearing “resistance is futile”? Resistance is NEVER futile – Resistance is Training. It is life itself. Keep up those reps.

Other excuses might be – “They’ve got the goodies.” What goodies exactly? Do they involve losing your mind because it’s such an uncomfortable place to be? The Warrior is at home in her mind.

Opportunity – “The harder I work the luckier I get”
As we negotiate our mortal existence we have a unique opportunity to take advantage of chance appearances and encounters – serendipity, in other words. If we recognize it. Then we can compare our path to the immortal framework of eternity and ask, How are we doing?
