The poppy = SUCCESS “Successful in whose eyes?”

The Poppy has long represented eternal sleep. Greeks and Romans used these orange and red flowers as offerings to the dead – Westerners emblazon them on tombstones. A gift of poppies from a loved one is unsettling. Does it ask, “Lose consciousness?”

We know The Poppy as the source of lifesaving modern analgesic morphine and its sad, life-destroying cousin, heroin. This double-edged sword make the experience of looking at a gorgeous full-flower field of poppies a mashup of fear, awe and joy. In Afghanistan those fields are destroyed by the righteous invaders seeking to alter a heroin-based economy.

Obviously the world is better off learning the manage the poppy’s subtle yet potent magic. Discernment is the ability to tell the difference between the things we can control and those we can’t, between the things that harm and the things that help. Discernment helps us to manage the Poppy’s dangerous beauty.

“Success” is another double-edged sword whose meaning is unclear. If we’ve “arrived”, where are we? “Stasis” equals death! The “journey” is everything.

The greatest pleasure of Soulmates is creating a world all our own, with its own rules and reality. If our Soul Unit is supportive and nourishing, we are a Success. The harsh judgments of the outside world, operating casino-like with few winners and a vast “majority” of losers, fades in punitive impact. All that is required for joy is that we must successfully enhance each other, offering multiple opportunities for discovery and expansion. This mandates rigorous soul-searching as we step through life’s landmines, both singly and alone. There is no more restful peace than ultimate confidence that someone’s got your back.
